The core of the festival will be a week-long workshop for up to 30 accomplished amateurs (and students) to put together a concert of baroque music in ‘historically informed’ style. This workshop is modelled on European events that your hosts, Robert and Andrew, have attended. The musical side of the workshop will be run by professional specialists in baroque music from Europe. The 2020 workshop will work on a production of selections from the oratorio Susanna by George Frideric Handel. Susanna, dating from 1749, is an 'operatic' oratorio based on the story of Susanna and the Elders from the Old Testament book of Daniel (aprocryphal in the protestant and Jewish traditions).
Morning and afternoon rehearsals will be in the Community Hall and in additional venues as required.
On Wednesday May 6, Andrew Fyson, your host, will lead a local hike to explore the wonderful nature of Denman Island.
