The core of the festival will be a week-long workshop for up to 25 accomplished amateurs (and students) to put together a concert of baroque music in ‘historically informed’ style. This workshop is modelled on European events that your hosts, Robert and Andrew, have attended. The musical side of the workshop will be run by 3 professional specialists in baroque music from Europe. The workshop will work on a concert production of selections from the opera L'Orfeo and madrigals by Claudio Monteverdi. L'Orfeo, dating from 1607, is the earliest opera performed regularly today.
Morning and afternoon rehearsals will be in the Community Hall and in additional venues as required.
Wednesday, May 10 will be a day off from rehearsals. Andrew, your host, will lead local hikes to explore nature or participants may venture off on their own.
